Jesus Satisfies

“Jesus SATISFIES”

As many kids are beginning their Summer break from school and parents and educators alike look back over the past year…are we SATISFIED?

For many, life is one disappointment after another, and they can never seem to find any lasting satisfaction.

Like a cool glass of water on a hot summer day, it was good while it lasted, but soon…and very soon you will be thirsty again.

People are searching for something that will give them a reason to get up in the mornings and to satisfy their “thirst” throughout the day, and fill them with PEACE as they lie down at night.

John 4:1-29

1 ¶  When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John,

2  (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,)

3  He left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee.

4 ¶  And he must needs go through Samaria.

5  Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.

6  Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.

7  There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.

8  (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)

9  Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.

10  Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

11  The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?

12  Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?

13  Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:

14  But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

15  The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.

16  Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.

17  The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:

18  For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.

19  The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.

20  Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.

21  Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.

22  Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.

23  But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

24  God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

25  The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.

26  Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.

27 ¶  And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?

28  The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,

29  Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?

As many kids are beginning their Summer break from school and parents and educators alike look back over the past year…are we SATISFIED?

For many, life is one disappointment after another, and they can never seem to find any lasting satisfaction.

Like a cool glass of water on a hot summer day, it was good while it lasted, but soon…and very soon you will be thirsty again.

People are searching for something that will give them a reason to get up in the mornings and to satisfy their “thirst” throughout the day, and fill them with PEACE as they lie down at night.

  • Society CANNOT fill you with lasting satisfaction

o   You WILL be continually disappointed

o   Friends WILL let you down

o   Family CANNOT always be there for you

o   Enemies and foes will be continually lurking in the shadows of your life and tormenting you daily with intimidation, pressure, etc.

  • Agendas cannot fill your heart with truth and peace

o   One group hates another and tells you all the reasons why you should be biased, bigoted, and filled with animosity towards one group of people or another

o   Then you have a personal experience that changes your views on bias, bigotry, and racism

o   Can you REALLY trust fashionable agendas and cultural viewpoints?

o   What is popular today will be socially unacceptable tomorrow!

  • Political figures and election promises cannot meet the inner need of your heart

o   The ANSWER to Americas need is NOT in the White House or Congress

o   The ANSWER to South Carolina’s need is NOT who we elect as Governor

o   The ANSWER to our local community is NOT who we put into office as our County Commissioner

  • Romance and marriage without Christ cannot be what your life thirsts for

o   Many young people think, “If I could ONLY find the right person and get married, then ALL my troubles and problems would be over!”

WHAT A TERRIBLY MISGUIDED THOUGHT!

While I have enjoyed 24 years of marriage to my wife, I can honestly say that SHE is NOT the source of my ETERNAL PEACE and HAPPINESS.

(I just hope she has had as many years of joy in our marriage as I have)…LOL

o   Marriage is God’s PLAN, but marriage ALONE is INSUFFICIENT to satisfy

  • Having children is a beautiful and wonderful thing, but even the most pleasant child cannot bring a lasting satisfaction to your heart and soul

o   Many people are blessed to have 1, 2, or many children in their homes

o   Children are a blessing from the Lord

o   Some people are unable to have their own children and some will adopt or foster a child (which is a very NOBLE and Christian thing to do)

o   However, a child is NOT God’s PLAN to give your life the SATISFACTION you are searching for…

In John’s Gospel, chapter 4, Jesus intentionally met a woman who was suffering from the same inner turmoil and distress as many people are today.

  • She KNEW her problems…
  • She was frustrated with her religion’s LACK of ability…
  • She tried to argue and reason, only to reveal that even her own opinions were shallow and not sufficient to give her a place to stand.
  • She finally realized that Jesus was who she had been searching for all her life!

Jesus met the need of her heart and her soul

She turned to Christ in REPENTANCE and FAITH…Faith that caused her life to testify of the change Jesus had made on the inside!

I submit to you…JESUS, and ONLY a relationship with JESUS can give your longing soul what you’ve been looking for.

“Jesus SATISFIES”

What are YOUR problems…(YOUR sins are ever before you)

o   Nobody has to tell you or inform you of your addictions, sinful behaviors, lusts, and impure thoughts

o   Nobody has to remind you that you are filled with the DRYNESS that sin leaves in the heart

o   You KNOW your life is THIRSTY and just as empty of hope and satisfaction as this woman in our text was…

Do you RECOGNIZE the inner struggle and frustrations that accompany “Good works”?

o   You came to church this morning…and maybe many times before now…but you always leave the same…EMPTY

o   You’ve tried to quit sinning and were embarrassed and frustrated at your inability…

Will you admit that what you hold on to for salvation is inadequate and will not give you peace on earth, much less a promise of eternal life and peace in Heaven?

o   Church membership…won’t SATISFY

o   Christian School (while it is the BEST option for our children’s future) will NOT SATISFY

o   Marriage and family are wonderful, but they CANNOT SATISFY…

Trust Christ Jesus to be the LIVING and LASTING Water of LIFE that fills and thrills the thirsty soul…and SATISFIES!

o   REPENT

  • Turn away from your sin and self
  • Turn to Christ for FORGIVENESS
  • He died on the Cross, was Buried, and Rose again the 3rd day to deliver you from your life of sin and from the eternal consequences of sin…HELL

o   BELIEVE the GOSPEL

  • God
  • Offers
  • Sinful
  • People
  • Eternal
  • Life

Come to Jesus TODAY…RIGHT NOW!

Ask Him to FORGIVE you

Ask Him to come into your life

Ask Him to save you

Trust Him to take over your life and Promise to live for HIM!
