A Companion of Fools…

When we read the wisdom of Solomon, penned in the Book of Proverbs, it’s not long before you see clearly the two opposing choices offered to mankind…WISDOM or FOOLISHNESS.

Proverbs 13:20 says, “He that walketh with wise men shall be wise, but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

The obvious action we should take is to begin walking with wise men…Unfortunately, for many, it just isn’t the choice they make. It’s one thing to be foolish, but how foolish do you have to be to “like”, “follow”, “friend”, “re-pin”, or quote men who have lived their life to bring nothing but shame to the cause of Christ!?! I recently received an email from a guy who refuses to repent of sin, and is now passing along “Biblical Advice” from another guy who has done as many things a man could to defile himself and to create havoc of the cause of Christ. My first thought was, “You’ve got to be kidding me!”. Then it dawned on me that these unrepentant men are just following the road outlined in Romans 1:18-24, and in II Timothy 3:1-9 where Paul addressed the downward path of those who go from rebellion to reprobation. He points out their wicked minds and their evil deeds…(It’s still strange to actually see it happening before your eyes.) These men were both “preachers“, and through sickening immorality have utterly disqualified themselves, yet they are online giving “Biblical Advice” that (when you trim off all the manipulation/mutilation of the Scriptures) just tells people to silently keep their head in the sand when sin is being committed. They love the verses that say things like…” think on these things…”. My question would be, “Why weren’t you thinking on these things instead of committing immorality? Why don’t you “think on these things” now, and conclude that you MUST REPENT? No, they want the Scriptures to work for their advantage. Peter spoke so well when he said, “…which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.” – 2 Peter 3:16

They want to silence the Nathans, the Elijahs, the Pauls, & the John the Baptists of today who cry out against their open and unrepentant immorality. I refuse to be silent about sin! Sin has cost us too much already! Sin has redefined Christianity into a immoral and socially accepted way of life. Sin has divided the Name of Christ into groups that have “learned tolerance” or “not to judge”. Sin has silenced the pulpits and has made the pews a place for sin to incubate and thrive. Sin has pressured those who are ignorant of the Bible to take a more passive stand. Sin has aggressively threatened and lied and torn at the church, all for the sake of self-gratification and self-ordained importance.

For those who know the Scriptures, we cannot be fooled by these foolish people, and we certainly don’t “follow”, “friend”, “re-pin”, or quote them. If you’re going to be foolish enough to “like” what they’re doing, then don’t think it strange when you get a Biblical Rebuke in reply.  They are “wolves”, they’ve always been “wolves”, and they are not going to be tamed or trained. The ONLY people that are fooled by them are the foolish who walk with them!

I’ll choose the “Old Paths” wherein is the good way. It’s stained with the tears and blood of those who are more worthy than I will ever be. So, how can I disgrace the Name of Christ and the Calling of God upon my life to leave the path of wisdom and begin to follow fools? Amen!

REPENT…the FIRST word of the GOSPEL

“REPENT…the FIRST Word of the GOSPEL”

Luke 24:44-48

And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

45  Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,

46  And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:

47  And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

48  And ye are witnesses of these things.

Luke 24:47

And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Part of the job of the Pastor, is to be apt to teach…

The subjects being taught are necessary and with purpose, so that the people of God need not be misled or confused into some false doctrine, heresy, or hyper-evangelistic pseudo church mentality.

REPENTANCE has been under attack before, and until Jesus comes, we will continue to face opposition to this and every other Bible doctrine.

The Word of God doesn’t need to be propped up…the Bible STANDS!

Salvation is the WORK of God…but it comes with TERMS/REQUIREMENTS

  • REPENTANCE towards God (the One offended)
  • FAITH towards our Lord Jesus Christ (the One offered)
    • The issue is NOT of FAITH…we BELIEVE that a sinner MUST BELIEVE, but he MUST REPENT and BELIEVE!!!
    • If believing were the point and repentance were just repenting of “unbelief” then the devils would be in heaven with you!

James 2:19

Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

Luke 4:41

And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was Christ.

  • If believing was ALL there was to it, then HOW can you believe and STILL go to HELL?

I Corinthians 15:1-2

Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

We are SAVED by the GOSPEL of Jesus Christ…

It IS possible to have BELIEVED in VAIN

VAIN – empty, worthless belief…

HOW is it possible to believe and STILL go to HELL!?!

There MUST be MORE to the Gospel than JUST believing…

Actually it is INSEPERABLE from true Biblical belief

Saving FAITH in Jesus requires BOTH REPENTANCE and BELIEF

I Samuel 16:7b

“…for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.”

Man can only see the OUTWARD change, and God designed REPENTANCE to produce a visible and outward change.

II Corinthians 5:17

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Beholdthe Greek tense, voice, and mood, declare it IMPERATIVE that YOU SEE and KNOW!

are becomeindicative mood of the Greek word lets us know that the action HAS, IS, and WILL CONTINUE to happen!!!

18  And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

19  To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

20  Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.

21  For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

  • Defined by John the Baptist – Matthew 3
    • Change of life PRODUCED by FAITH from one who HAS REPENTED
  • Demanded by John the Baptist – Matthew 3

  • Defined by JESUS
    • Nineveh repented at the preaching of Jonah

Matthew 12:41

The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas;

What did Nineveh DO?  They Believed God AND REPENTED…

Jonah 3:8

But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.

  • Demanded by Jesus

Mark 2:17

When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Luke 5:32

I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

 Luke 24:47

And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

  • Repentance of SINS – your part
  • Remission of SINS – God’s part

Also granted (gift/NOT works) to the Gentiles as well…

Acts 11:18

When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

Acts 20:21

Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

Acts 26:20

But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.

Romans 2:4

Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

  • DEFINED by Paul

Hebrews 6:1

Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,

  • DEMANDED by Paul

2Corinthians 7:10

For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

2Corinthians 7:11

For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.

Matthew 3:2

And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Mark 1:15

And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

Present Tense- a statement of fact or reality occurring in actual time – NOW

Active Voice- represents the subject as the doer or performer of the action.

Imperative Mood- expresses a command to the hearer to perform a certain action by the order and authority of the one commanding.  Thus, Jesus’ phrase, “Repent ye, and believe the gospel” is not at all an “invitation,” but an absolute command requiring full obedience on the part of all hearers.

These were OBVIOUSLY non-believers…(not believers who needed to repent)

These were people that Jesus called to REPENT

Luke 13:1-5

There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.

2  And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?

1) to change one’s mind, i.e. to repent

2) to change one’s mind for better, heartily to amend with abhorrence of one’s past sins

There are 2 words translated REPENT.

The distinction often given between these is;

3338 μεταμελομαι metamellomai met-am-el’-lom-ahee, refers to an emotional change,

3340 μετανοεω metanoeo met-an-o-eh’-o, to a change of choice,

3338 has reference to particulars,

3340 to the entire life,

3338 signifies nothing but regret even amounting to remorse, 3340 that reversal of moral purpose known as repentance; does not seem to be sustained by usage.

But that 3340 is the fuller and nobler term, expressive of moral action and issues, is indicated not only by its derivation, but by the greater frequency of its use (34 times vs. 6 times)and by the fact it is often used in the imperative.

  • “WORKS”
    • To “turn from” would be WORKS
    • (If that’s the case, SO is PRAYING or RECEIVING or kneeling or breathing…)
    • Armenian doctrine (works salvation) is stopping sin or starting good in order to be or keep salvation
    • “Easy-Believism”  teaches that all God requires is believing (the devils believe AND tremble!!!)
  • Sin of UN-belief
    • Repenting of not believing and then believing in order to be saved
    • This “sounds good” if there were no other Bible for us to read

  • What saith the Scriptures

2Peter 3:9

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Luke 11:32

The men of Nineve shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.

Jonah 3:6-10

6  For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.

7  And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:

8  But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.

9  Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?

10  And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

ð      Illustration of NOT repenting

Revelation 9:20-21

20  And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:

21  Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.

ð       CONSEQUENCE of  NOT repenting

Matthew 11:20-24

Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:

Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.

And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.

But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.

The Book of Revelation repeatedly mentions those who WILL NOT REPENT of their DEEDS/WORKS

ð       SHOW me your FAITH…

God is NOT interested in TALK…He is looking for the REPENTANT HEART who will BELIEVE on Jesus Christ for their eternal Salvation

                                                     Luke 24:47

And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

“Refusing to Raise REPROBATES”

In a culture that seems to be bent on removing God from every facet of society, it behooves us as believers to train our children in the way they should go.  The “Light” is being removed and put our of so many areas of life, and the darkness naturally envelopes every vacancy…God Help Us!

[READ] Romans 1:18-32

II Timothy 3

* There is a PROCESS to Reprobation

1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

(besides what we read in Romans 1…here we can see that what was in its infancy in Romans 1 is now in maturity in II Timothy 3)

2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

4  Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

* This is the PRODUCT of Reprobation

5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,

7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

9 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.

(it is obvious and evident even as the Biblical examples that were given)

* There could be PERSECUTION from Reprobates

10 But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,

11 Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.

12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

(they hate us for exposing their sin.  They retaliate in hate because their lie has been revealed and they have been caught)

* How to have Protection/Prevention from Reprobation

14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;

15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

(Keep yourself …and your children…ROOTED and Built Up in the Scriptures.  The ONLY Hope we have is in the Word of God!)

Double Trouble

Luke 11:44

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them.

Jesus pronounced woe upon this group of religious hypocrites who were nothing but a trap for others to fall into…and what a horrible description of where they would fall…a grave!

Wait a minute! Weren’t these the same men who were professing to be doing the work of God!?!

Leaders of the people!?!…” men of God”?

I know men like this, who use their influence to draw Christians (especially givers) into their trap. Some are disqualified for ministry, yet they continue to posture themselves as men of God. They will not get out of the ministry and they are but a grave and a snare to anyone who will follow after their sinful and selfish ways.

It’s a DOUBLE LIFE that they live, and it’s…

One side of their personality is very, very “into” the things of God…especially positions or power.  They love to be on the platform, noticed, etc. They’ll even rebuke those who are seemingly in the way of their advancement. The other side of their personality is strangely twisted and many times perverted in their wicked and sinful behavior.

I know several men…some claim to be men of God, a missionary, a jail preacher, etc….whose DOUBLE life has wounded many children of God and has done great damage to the Cause of Christ

This DOUBLE LIFE of sin and spirituality can be seen in life of Samson, whose life ended prematurely and has left a bitter taste in the mouth of believers ever since. Samson could judge Israel, “visit” a harlot, and kill Philistines…all in a day’s work! What a tragic example of a DOUBLE life!

Will they ever learn that the ONLY people who are impressed with their ability to juggle both the spiritual and the sinful life are themselves and those who are as deep in sin as they are!

Why it bothers me so bad, is that good people can be swayed by their silver tongue, by their intoxicating and intimidating influence.

No wonder Paul said, in Titus 1:11, Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre’s sake.

Philippians 3:18-19

(For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:

Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)

They are truly enemies of the cross of Christ. They are more focused on their own selfish interests, than in the purity and holiness of the office, the ministry, or even souls for that matter.

It’s high time that REAL Men of God preach against these Pharisees, as Jesus did… Stand up against them as John the Baptist did… but be ready to be viciously and violently stoned by their self righteous and self centered attacks as Stephen was.

It’s time to preach “Woe” upon all those who will use the office and ministry for selfish and family gain.

When you disqualify yourself from the preaching ministry, and are no longer qualified to be the Man of God, then GET OUT!

God has a “Samuel” ready to take “Eli’s” place. GET OUT!!! … and stop interfering with the real work of God by your plastic and pretense.

The DOUBLE life is a miserable and really a pitiful choice made by men who no longer have the genuine Power of God on them, and they have to do all their own marketing and advertising to keep themselves feeling vital instead of vestigial. Samson said that he would shake himself…but  he was a fraud and the enemies of God got a good laugh out of his total failure.

Is “that” what you want? If not, then STOP the DOUBLE life and humble yourself before God Almighty in genuine repentance!

Submit yourself to the authority of the Word of God, the local church, and a Godly Pastor. Do then what you can to support the work of Christ instead of destroying it through your continued hypocrisy and DOUBLE TROUBLE life.

Dry Roots

Psalm 1:3

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Every time I read his passage, I quickly assume my desired position as the PLANTED tree…by the rivers…bringing forth fruit…

However, life isn’t ALWAYS like that.

There are people here today who have the same desire, to be fruitful and to be blessed, but they are NOT.  They live in a place of “dryness” and many have even been wounded or cut down…

They feel more like the Psalmist in another passage…

Psalm 63:1

O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;

The Scriptures clearly let us know that we are subject to facing times when we feel like there is NO HOPE and NO HELP…

What are we to do?

We’ve been assaulted, attacked, abused, misunderstood, betrayed, overlooked, etc…

How can I return to the FRUITFUL place where I once was?

“ROOTED: Finding Christ in DRY Times”

What do you do when your roots get dry?

Job 14:7-9

7For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.

8Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground;

9Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.

The WOUNDS are REAL …CUT DOWN

  • The work or act of others…
  • It was once growing and thriving…now it is CUT DOWN
  • It was hopeful and fruitful…now it is a stump…
  • Annual rings remind of days and years gone by wherein life and glory were enjoyed…NOW it is CUT DOWN

The situation may even be PERMANENT… root wax old in the earth

  • There is NOTHING here that gives renewal and restoration
    • Days and years go by and the root gets dryer and more brittle
    • “Set in your ways” …hope is dying…cut, dry, distant, brittle…
  • The “earth” CANNOT satisfy… The “ground” cannot comfort or restore
    • You CANNOT find what you are longing for in the dry “earth” around you
    • Lowering your standards to find fellowship and nourishment will NEVER cause your boughs to flourish again

The HOPE has NEVER left…

  • The tree REMEMBERS the days of life and strength…annual rings tell of years of blessings, of plenty, of WATER!!!
    • NOTHING can ever replace the “used-to-be” and the thoughts of yesterday…
    • The annual rings remind you of what it “was” before…
  • There is NO peace or satisfaction in being DRY and DEAD…
  • There is NO joy or unity of fellowship in continuing in this old, brittle, and dry existence

        It WILL sprout again…

  • It can be RESTORED to tenderness and fruitfulness and NEW LIFE
  • It MUST receive the very thing that gave it life in the beginning…WATER!!!

        The SCENT of WATER

  • Return to the Water – or continue to run from the water
  • Receive the Water – or continue to refuse the water
  • Revived by the Water – or continue to be ravaged by the drought
  • Restored by the Water – or continue to remain in your current condition

What “happened” in your life that CUT you down did not change the SOURCE of your life…the WATER…Christ, the Word of God

What caused your life to GROW and FLOURISH before WILL give new life and growth to your dry and dying roots…PREACHING of the Word of God

At the “SCENT” of water… do you remember what it “smelled” like?

You will NEVER be restored if you don’t get back to the WATER

You will NEVER be restored until you see the desperation of your need.

Come to JESUS!

Sin is the PROBLEM…

It’s NOT the Bible… The Word of God identifies SIN and the Holy Spirit convicts us of SIN.  Whenever you have transgressed the Law of God, don’t be surprised when the Word of God calls you out and exposes your SIN for what it is…SIN!

It’s NOT the Preacher… The messenger is simply delivering the message. Nathan rebuked David for his SIN!  Elijah pointed out Ahab’s SIN!  John the Baptist proclaimed publicly the SIN of Herod!  The PROBLEM was NOT the Preacher, but SIN!!!

It’s NOT the Church… The Bride of Christ.  The congregation of God’s People who stand true to the Word of God and beside the Man of God.  These people are NOT the problem…SIN is the problem!

It’s NOT the Rebuke… Scripture says that open rebuke is better than secret love.  The situation can begin the healing and mending process when it is rebuked and NOT covered up.  Rebuke also conditions the hearts of the children of God to beware lest they too fall into sin, knowing that they will be faced with the rebuke of their behavior.

It’s NOT the Embarrassment… I’ve had people who have foolishly confronted me, claiming that they were embarrassed by what I have said or written about them and their family members who were in open sin. The foolishness is that they are “barking up the wrong tree”.  The problem would never had to be addressed if they had not chosen to sin.  You CHOOSE to SIN, you CHOOSE to SUFFER!

It’s NOT the Consequences… I know men who are disqualified from their God called position because of their sin.  I truly am sorry that Satan won such a stronghold in their life and that the effects are long-lasting, but I cannot deny that the consequences are just and Biblical.  They are to step down from the ministry and get a job supporting another Man of God who is called and qualified to do what God has told him to do.

SIN is the PROBLEM… Sin has and is and continues to be the problem.  Had they not chosen to sin, then there would be no need for this kind of discussion.  Because they chose to sin and now want to continue to pretend to be right with God or remain in the ministry or make some spectacular “COME BACK”…Men of God MUST preach and point out and name them for who they are and what they are…WOLVES!

Who’s on “FIRST”?

Matthew 6:33

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Philippians 3:18-19

(For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)

Mark 9:35

And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.

The “enemies of the cross of Christ” have always placed their personal desires and private agendas above the Holy Word and Will of God.  When what you are, what you want, and what you do is more important than the Bible, then you are what Paul described as an enemy of the “cross of Christ”.

I am really surprised when I hear or see a so-called Christian family (especially a preacher or missionary) who lives and trains his family to be put first.  When anyone considers themselves or their family to be “first”, then you have the perfect environment for un-tamed sin and self-will.  Fornicators and Pharisees rarely repent.  Many of them preach that repentance of sin is a work and thus is not required by God for salvation…leaving their “converts” as well as themselves in their continued lost condition and condemnation.  Their misguided belief of “Family First” continues to keep the avenue open for their filthy sinning and covering up one another’s sins.  Rebuke one and you’ll find out quickly that they have no regard for the Bible, the Church, or the Cause of Christ in general…just their own “Family First”.

I’ve personally seen and heard them threaten all kinds of harm… physical, family, property, law suits, etc. and yet continue to consider themselves to be “better Christians” than those they threaten.  This is so far from the Jesus of the Bible, and thus far from true Christianity.  Remember, Pharisees and Fornicators ARE NOT Christians!  They ought to REPENT, but instead, too many times, they spew and fume in unbridled anger and breathe out threatenings.  (This sounds more like Saul of Tarsus, king Saul, and Shimei than it does of those who claim to be saved by the Precious Blood of Christ.)  I’m not falling for their false profession!

“Family First”  the battle cry and creed of those who do not know the Jesus of the Bible, yet would attempt to use the Bible to forward their own importance and are convinced of their immunity from rebuke or judgment.  Sin is sin, and the time is long overdue that real Men of God thunder reproof and rebuke as well as exhorting others to never fall prey to this “wile” of the devil.  They claim that our rebuke and publicity is embarrassing them…I say, “REPENT!”  What about the public embarrassment they have done to the TRUE Cause of Christ and the effect it has had on so many who were weak in their faith!?!  What about those who would be deceived into thinking that they are right with God and should be allowed back into the ministry?  The job of the Overseer of the flock of God is to feed the sheep while he fights the wolves.

I cannot but speak the things which I have seen and heard.  I cannot apologize for  preaching and writing truth.  In light of those who have blazed the path ahead of me, HOW CAN I cower under the threat of a burning fiery furnace or the jaw of the lion or the hand of some fornicating “Philistine”?  The God Whom I serve WILL deliver me from their hand.

Let God be TRUE!

I’m with HIM!!!

ROOTED in a Godly Heritage

“ROOTED in a Godly Heritage”

The Christian life is not a life to be re-invented along the way…it's a life patterned after those who have gone on before us…

“Be ye followers of me…”

“…so as ye have us for an ensample…”
“be thou an example of the believers…”
We ought to give our children and grand-children a Heritage that MATTERS
A Godly Heritage begins with the one who desires to have a Godly Heritage…leave a legacy of Truth, Holiness, and Integrity for those who WILL be following your example.
Colossians 2:6-7
As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:
7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
What OTHERS have taught us along the way MATTERS.
We have, this week (8-12-2013), lost a dear Saint and Soldier of the Cross…Dr. S. Milford Biddle, D.D.
He stood in this very pulpit dozens of times and preached what he practiced. Those of you that knew him, knew a Godly example. Will his place remain vacant? Will your family have no one to fill the void he left? Will YOU not step up and BE the EXAMPLE of the believers?
I think that NOW is a VERY important time to ask and answer these important questions.
What choices are really important that we should make sure that we are ROOTED and BUILT UP and STABLISHED in them…as we have been taught.
Some things I was TAUGHT by a Man of God…otherwise titled…“He FINISHED Well”

II Timothy 4:7
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
I WANT it to be said of me…He FINISHED WELL!!!

Having and KEEPING the Power of God

  • Mentors MATTER

You ARE following SOMEONE's example
You will become LIKE who you follow

  • Manners MATTER

How we dress and act is NOT just about “fitting in” a crowd
How we dress and act is a DIRECT reflection upon our Opinion of WHAT we think about JESUS Christ

  • Morals MATTER

Character COUNTS
Being and STAYING qualified
Honor is Honorable
Dishonor is a SHAME

  • Memorization MATTERS

The Word of God KEEPS you from SIN
The Word of God DEFENDS you from evil
The Word of God is our OFFENSIVE weapon
The Word of God WORKS
The Word of God is the POWER of PREACHING

  • The Message MATTERS

NO doctrinal error
Preach the Word
Leave the rest alone

Godly, Christ Honoring Music

“You can't build a church on good singing, but you won't build much of one without it!” – Dr. Milford Biddle

  • Your Motives MATTER

WHY we do is as important as WHAT we do
Our ATTITUDES and our ACTIONS are BOTH important
Is it for CHRIST?…ALONE?

  • Memories MATTER

What people remember about you
Your lingering legacy
What will the church be after you are gone?
What effect have you had that will keep the next generation COMMITTED to God?
ROOTED and BUILT UP in Christ

Romans 1:1
Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ,…

Titus 1:1
Paul, a servant of God,…

James 1:1
James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ,…

II Peter 1:1
Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ,…

Jude 1:1
Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ,…

Revelation 1:1
The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:

Each of these recognized the position held by Jesus Christ in their personal life was that of OWNERSHIP…Jesus OWNS them…they BELONG to Jesus.
It is ONLY through an understanding of this relationship/position that we will more readily live for Christ without feeling aligned or obligated to sin and the will of our own flesh.

When you are saved by Jesus Christ, you are forgiven of every sin and made to be a part of the Family of God.
Whereas you once were “lost” and in need of Salvation, now you are “found” and FREE from the condemnation of sin and the judgment of Hell
God has offered His GRACE to every soul, and those who have received His Gift of Eternal Life are forever changed and made to be the children of God.
Our behavior NOW reflects upon our Saviour and tells the world around us what we think of Him…Some CLAIM to belong to Jesus, yet the CONSISTENT pattern of their life is FAR from the Will and Ways of God…

Romans 6
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.
8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.
22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

You DO NOT belong to yourself…

  • Are you God's child?

I Corinthians 6: 18-20
Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

  • Or do you BELONG to the devil?

John 8:44
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

  • You BELONG to ONE or the OTHER

Luke 16:13
No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Have you given your life to Christ?
Will you be His for now and eternity?
Come to Him while you can.

Repent and Believe the Gospel

ROOTED and BUILT UP in Christ – 2013

What We Believe

What We Believe…
Our Doctrine
The following paragraphs simply summarize what we believe as a church family. We believe the Bible and teach it to be perfectly true. Every belief and teaching of FBC flows from God's Word. For a more detailed account and description of our doctrine, feel free to request a doctrinal statement from the church office.

We believe that the Bible is the inerrant, inspired Word of God and that it is our final authority in all matters of faith and practice. For reasons of unity within the church and because of it's textual reliability, we choose to use the King James version of the Bible.

I Timothy 3:16-17, II Peter 1:20-21

God is a Person, eternally existing, as a Trinity in unity – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, – three Persons and yet one God.
Deuteronomy 6:4, Matthew 26:19, I Corinthians 8:6

Jesus Christ, eternally existing, is the only begotten Son of God, who became a sinless man to redeem us. He was born of a virgin and is true God and true man.
Luke 1:30-55, John 1:1-15, Philippians 2:5-8

The local church is a group of believers baptized by water, banded together for edification, exhortation, and evangelism as commanded by Christ in the Great Commission; preaching the Gospel to every creature.
Mark 16:15, I Corinthians 12:12, Ephesians 1:22-23

Man was created in the image of God but fell through sin, bringing not only physical death; but also spiritual death or eternal separation from God. Now all of mankind exists as a fallen race with an inherited sinful nature.
Genesis 2:16, Genesis 3:16-19, Romans 3:10-23, Romans 6:23

The Lord Jesus Christ suffered and died as a substitutionary payment for the sins of the whole world. He physically arose from the dead and then ascended into Heaven. Simple faith in this sacrifice is the only way of salvation for mankind.
Luke 24, Acts 1:9-11, Romans 5:8-10, I Peter 3:18

Jesus Christ Himself will soon come again in the air to catch up His Church to reward their service. The unbelievers left behind will go through a period called the Tribulation, after which Christ will return to the Earth to set up His Kingdom of one thousand years of righteous rule. After this, the unbelievers of all ages will stand at the Great White Throne to be judged and cast into the Lake of Fire, separated from God forever, while the believers spend eternity in the fullness of joy in Heaven with the Lord.

Matthew 24:29-42, I Thessalonians 4:16-18, Revelation 19:11- 20:13
